Church and Mission in a Global Context
Our first lecture was very introductory, but a small tidbit stuck out to me. I thought it was interesting to hear the analysis of seeker churches as being the return of the baby boomers to the church "building" (for the sake of the theological education of their children - i.e. Sunday School) while maintaining their rejection of "institutionalized" church (e.g. denominational organization). I had definitely associated seeker churches with the modern mentality (with emphasis on the personal rather than the communal experience and especially as regards to sermon and worship style), however it had not occurred to me to analyze where the seeker church had come from, taking into consideration how recent yet pervasive it has become.
